Canadian Beaver Tails with Maple Syrup Donuts

A delicious treat from Canada are these Beaver Tails with Maple Syrup Donuts. The deep-fried dough has a crispy exterior and a soft interior, and the rich, sweet taste of maple syrup is characteristically Canadian. Ideal for a warm dessert in Canada!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Canadian maple syrup for drizzling
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

Mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon together in a mixing bowl

Mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl

Mixing until just combined, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients

The dough should be sticky; do not overmix

Place the dough on a surface dusted with flour, then roll it out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch

With a cookie cutter or knife, cut the dough into oval or beaver tail shapes

In a deep pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350F 175C

The cutout dough pieces should be carefully inserted into the hot oil and fried for one to two minutes on each side, or until golden brown

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried beaver tails and set them on a plate covered with paper towels to absorb any remaining oil

Drizzle the donuts with a generous amount of Canadian maple syrup while they are still warm

Add some powdered sugar for a sweeter finish

Enjoy your warm Canadian Beaver Tails served with Maple Syrup Donuts!
